Bored to the Board for education

Bored to the Board for education is a creative, outcome-focussed workshop designed for student of all academic levels. It’s adaptable to their educational stage and encourages teamwork and individual confidence building.

Purpose of workshop:

The workshop is based around devising a board game to gain a better understanding of a project or goal. It’s ideal for students:

  • Working towards exams
  • Working on a dissertation or project
  • Preparing to leave education and changing their focus to the world of work
  • Wanting to make the most of their academic experience

How the workshop works:

Focussing on questions such as ‘how do we define success’, ‘what are the milestones along the way to achieving success’, and ‘what boosts or perils could we face’, the students build up a creative bank of ideas which all contribute to their understanding of the issue at hand.

During the workshop we employ a range of exercises to engage the students in defining and understanding their goals. This enables a deep rooted analysis of targets and ambitions, and facilitates breaking them down to gain a valuable understanding of how to go about achieving them.

Each exercise builds up creative elements which contribute to the creation of a board game, which the students then work in teams to devise.

The workshop ends with each team presenting their games to the room.

“A very good way of seeing your projects in a different way” – Janine

After the workshop students are empowered and task-focussed about achieving their goals. They are equipped with a deeper understanding of what they need to achieve and how they can go about achieving it, along with a clear sense of a pathway to reach their target.

The workshop is effective in removing the ‘yeah, but…’ and replacing it with ‘I can…’

The creative and interactive aspects mean the students are energised and optimistic about their goals, with a sense that they are possible, achievable, and within their reach.

The group work encourages teamwork and peer to peer support, while allowing each student an opportunity to consider their own personal situation, leaving them empowered to move forward.

The workshop can be run as:

  • Half day (4 hours)
  • Full day (8 hours)

The various durations allow for client-based flexibility depending on the nature of the core issue being addressed, and other logistical issues such as available time etc. We’re happy to discuss what you need.

Who hosts:

The workshop is hosted by Jo Wilkes and Anna Whitehead who devised the Bored to the Board workshop and specialize in training and game design.

The workshop can be run for groups from 6 – 80 people. Any group over 25 would require additional support which can be provided by the client or Creative Engagement.

Creative Engagement supplies all resources and materials for the workshop.
